The 30-Day Plan
Most people install trial software, click around for an evening, and never open it again. Here is the week-by-week plan I gave my students, so day 30 arrives with an evidence-based answer instead of a shrug.
Week by week
Install, connect data, and build your actual watchlist, the instruments you really trade, not the demo symbols. Set up one workspace layout you would genuinely use: chart, QuoteCenter watchlist, news panel. The point of week one is that opening MetaStock feels like sitting at your own desk, because you cannot evaluate software you experience as foreign.
This is the week that matters most. Take a rule you already trade, or the one you have been meaning to test, and run it through the System Tester against several years of history. Look hard at the report: drawdown, win rate, exposure. If the results surprise you, in either direction, MetaStock just paid for itself before you paid for it.
Build one exploration that finds your setup across the whole market, and run it after each session. Compare what it surfaces against what you found manually. This is where MetaStock either wins a permanent place in your evening routine or reveals you do not need it.
Tally it up: did the backtests change how you would trade? Did the scans find trades you would have missed? Did you actually open XENITH for the news? Then, on day 25, not day 30, either subscribe at the tier that matches how you used it, or cancel. Both are wins; you decided with evidence.
Start the 30 days, follow the four weeks above, and you will know for certain by day 25.

Check what is included in the trial, skim the trial FAQ, and make sure your PC meets the system requirements. If you are weighing MetaStock against alternatives first, read the honest review.
